A hydrocoele is the result of excessive fluid in the tunica vaginalis (the serous space surrounding the testis).

Presentation is usually as a soft, non-tender, and cystic swelling in the scrotum which transilluminates. One can get above the lesion. The testis cannot be palpated as it lies within the fluid collection.
