Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine that is used as a oral anti-convulsant.

Clonazepam may be useful in petit mal, in complex partial seizures, and for suppressing myoclonic jerks.

Clonazepam is generally used as an adjunctive treatment.

In order to avoid sedation and irritability, treatment should begin with small doses - 0.5 mg twice daily, and increased gradually over several weeks.

The summary of product characteristics should be consulted before prescribing this drug.
