Slipped upper femoral epiphysis or slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is the most commonly affecting hip disorder seen in adolescents principally aged 8 to 15 years, where the upper femoral epiphysis on the metaphysis (femoral neck) slips through the epiphyseal plate (growth plate), usually in a posterior and inferior direction (1).

If this condition presents atypically early then investigation should be directed to identifying any underlying endocrine disease such as hypothyroidism.
