Methods of assessment:

  • subjective - often in psychiatry, but vagaries overcome to an extent in validated psychometry, similarly with pain scales
  • objective - blood pressure, spirometry, blood lipids etc
  • records - very important in trials of new drugs - part of "Good Clinical Practice" - as enforced by regulatory authorities
