  • ventricular septal defect - this is large and non-restrictive
  • right ventricular outflow obstruction - in general this is at the infundibular level. There may also be valvular stenosis. The degree of obstruction determines the amount of right-to-left shunting. In the most severe form of obstruction, pulmonary atresia, circulation to the lungs is achieved via a ductus arteriosus or bronchial collateral arteries.
  • this condition results in:
    • reduced oxygen saturation in the left ventricle
    • reduced pulmonary artery pressure
    • elevated pressure in the right ventricle and subsequent hypertrophy
