nasal furunculosis
Last reviewed 01/2018
Nasal furunculosis is a boil in the nasal vestibule as a result of infection of a hair follicle. This condition is very rare.
In this condition the tip of the nose becomes red and very painful.
Systemic antibiotics should be given immediately, preferably by injection.
Drainage of the abscess may be necessary but should be deferred until the patient has had appropriate antibiotic treatment for 24 hours.
The condition is serious because it carries a risk of the development of cavernous venous thrombosis.
