The post neonatal rate is the number of deaths occurring after 28 days of age and before one year, i.e. after the neonatal period, given as a rate per thousand live births per year.

It can be given by the infant mortality rate minus the neonatal mortality rate.

In England and Wales in 1989 this figure was 3.6.
