Pyruvate carboxylase

Pyruvate carboxylase is a mitochondrial enzyme that converts pyruvate, bicarbonate ions and ATP into oxaloacetate, ADP and phosphate. It is used in gluconeogenesis as a stage in the interconversion of pyruvate to phosphoenolpyruvate. Also, it may provide oxaloacetate precursors for the tricarboxylic acid cycle at times of exercise.

It is inhibited by an increased concentration of intracellular ADP.
