Adults and children may be carriers of pyogenic staphylococci which can produce an infection of the skin of the nasal vestibule with consequent soreness and fissuring of the nasal site. The site will also become encrusted.

Treatment of this condition consists of prolonged use of topical antibiotic/antiseptic ointment and systemic flucloxacillin.
