  • autoantibodies to these proteins are found in SLE, especially in drug-induced SLE
    • characteristic pattersn of antibodies to different histone proteins can be elicited by certain drugs e.g. procainamide
    • anti-histone antibodies are found in about 95% of cases of drug-induced SLE in the absence of other autoantibodies
      • also found in about 50% of idiopathic lupus and far less frequently in systemic sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and mixed connective tissue disorders
