Froin's syndrome

Froin's syndrome occurs when lumbar puncture reveals:

CSF with a high protein content
xanthochromia but normal cell count

Foin's syndrome is a sign of blockage of CSF flow in the spine. The commonest causes are:

advanced spinal tumour
spinal meningitis
