The general principles in management of hyperlipidaemia are based on the management of possible secondary causes of hyperlipidaemia. The aim is for the patient to maintain a lean body weight.

- diet: low fat, avoid alcohol
- other measures: avoid smoking and increase exercise
- drug treatment
