Complications
- left ventricular failure;
- death - sudden death from arrhythmia;
- systemic embolism - this may be caused by emboli from a calcified valve blocking small arteries eg retinal;
- infective endocarditis - it is suggested if there is unexplained anaemia and clubbing;
- atrioventricular block.
