Echocardiography in HOCM

Diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HOCM) is made by echocardiography.

Classical features include:

  • asymmetrical septal hypertrophy
  • systolic anterior movement of the mitral apparatus
  • left ventricle is normal or small and the systolic function is exaggerated or normal
  • LV outflow obstruction can be demonstrated by Doppler techniques
