Neck
The neck can be a rich source of cardiovascular sign and should be examined carefully.
The main structure of interest are the:
- carotid arteries
- the carotid arterial pulse should be assessed for the amplitude, shape and volume
- most of the information gained concerns the function of the aorta and left ventricle
- the jugular veins
- the jugular venous pressure provides information about the function of the right atrium and right ventricles
