Elevation

Authoring team

Elevation of the legs reduces oedema.

Compression bandages are most effective if applied after a period of prolonged elevation, typically in the morning after a night in bed. Keeping the leg raised above the hips for 30 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day, also helps in reducing the oedema and the pain associated with it (1).
