Investigations
Pertinent investigations in myotonic dystrophy show:
- slightly raised CPK enzyme levels
- conduction abnormalities on ECG
- characteristic myopathic EMG, with so-called dive bomber noise
- cataracts may be seen by slit lamp examination
- if urinary glucose is positive, it is followed by glucose tolerance test to confirm diabetes
Other features:
- vital capacity may be impaired
- disordered oesophageal motility may be observed radiologically
- reduced levels of IgG
