Embryology
The right atrium represents two different developmental structures:
- the right horn of the sinus venosus; this is absorbed during development to form the sinus venarum
- the rough-walled anterior section of the right atrium represents the true embryological atrium
The region between the two is demarcated by the crista terminalis.
