Indications
The indications for sotalol are:
- ventricular arrhythmias:
- life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias
- symptomatic non-sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias
- prophylaxis in supraventricular arrhythmias:
- paroxysmal atrial tachycardia
- paroxysmal atrial fibrillation
- paroxysmal A-V nodal re-entrant tachycardia
- paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia after cardiac surgery
- maintenance of sinus rhythm following cardioversion from atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter
In the past sotalol has been used for the treatment of angina and hypertension; these indications are no longer valid because of the proarrhythmic potential of sotalol.
