Aetiology
Possible causes of splinter haemorrhages include:
- trauma, especially in manual workers
- infective endocarditis
- Trichinella spiralis infestation
- vasculitides:
- rheumatoid arthritis
- systemic lupus erythematosus
- polyarteritis nodosa
- sepsis elsewhere in the body
- haematological malignancy
- profound anaemia
