  • stroke:
    • both systolic and diastolic hypertension cause stroke
    • systolic hypertension is most closely linked to stroke
    • systolic hypertension:
      • doubles the risk of stroke in women
      • quadruples the risk of stroke in men

  • left ventricular hypertrophy and cardiac failure
