Poor prognostic factors

  • ophiasis pattern - multiple lesions at the scalp margins
  • loss of eyebrows and eyelashes
  • nail change
  • associated atopy
  • childhood onset
  • Chronic and extensive alopecia areata
  • Down's syndrome
  • Presence of other autoimmune disease (1)
