Antimalarial drugs are used either for prophylaxis or treatment of malaria.

Prophylactic agents:

  • chloroquine
  • mefloquine
  • proguanil
  • pyrimethamine with dapsone (Maloprim)

Treatment of malaria:

  • quinine
  • chloroquine (not for falciparum malaria)
  • mefloquine
  • primaquine
  • pyrimethamine with sulfadoxine (Fansidar)
