- retrocalcaneal bursitis - pain arises from behind the Achilles tendon - may respond to treatment measures used in Achilles tendinosis (massage, calf stretching, insoles, footwear modification, altering sporting activity). If these measures are not curative then removal of the posterior superior calcaneal eminence results in resolution
