Management

Authoring team

In general, patients should be advised about lifestyle changes which may help the condition. Initial advice include

  • identifying any trigger factors and avoiding them e.g. - spicy foods or alcohol, stressful situations, and identifiable emotional triggers
  • using antiperspirant spray rather than deodorant
  • wearing loose-fitting clothes made of natural fibres, and using dress shields to absorb sweat.
  • wear leather shoes only
  • minimise obvious signs of sweating by wearing black or white clothing
  • use emollient washers and moisturizers rather than soap-based cleansers
  • introduce to a patient support group – www.hyperhidrosisuk.org (1).

Management varies with respect to generalized and localised hyperhidrosis.
