Juvenile plantar dermatosis

This condition is considered to be a form of atopic eczema.

Presentation is with persistent erythema with scaling and cracking of the pressure bearing areas of the feet of children who wear closed shoes. Occasionally itching may occur.

Treatment involves frequent application of emollient creams or low potency steroid ointments. It is desirable to wear cotton socks and sandals if possible.

Treatment should be maintained until resolution occurs. This is generally by early puberty. This condition is not a form of allergy.
