Plasmapheresis
This is a therapy which aims to remove antibodies or inflammatory mediators from the blood.
Whole blood is removed from the body and separated into plasma and red cells. The red cells are reinfused while the plasma is discarded.
Plasmapheresis is a supportive therapy only because the synthesis of antibodies continues.
