The investigation of a suspected case of pyoderma gangrenosum should include:
- skin biopsy:
- for culture to detect bacteria and fungi
- for histology to detect malignancy and vasculitis
- gastrointestinal imaging in selected patients:
- barium meal and enema
- barium meal and enema
- blood tests to detect:
- paraproteinaemia
- antiphospholipid antibody
- antinuclear antibody
- ANCA
- full blood count and blood smear
- bone marrow examination in selected patients
