Aetiology
The cause of dehiscence may be divided into preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative factors.
- Preoperative factors: poor nutritional state, malignancy, obesity, re-operation
- intraoperative factors: poor technique, long procedure time
- postoperative factors: infection, haematoma, coughing, abdominal distention
