Without a goitre
Non-goitrous hypothyroidism is caused by decreased or absent thyroid tissue and may result from:
- chronic autoimmune thyroiditis
- thyroidectomy or treatment with radioactive iodine
- thyroid agenesis or lingual thyroid
- as part of panhypopituitarism
- hypothalamic lesion with isolated TSH deficiency
