Examination of the hands
In the hands the following features may be observed in thyroid disease:
- thyroid acropachy - clubbing
- Plummer's nails - onycholysis - the nail lifts off the nail bed
- vitiligo
- carpal tunnel - fluid retention
- tremor - accentuated by placing a piece of paper on the patient's outstretched hand
