Types of poisoning where quantitative measures are useful
The management of many overdoses can be best assessed by clinical indicators e.g. the degree of bradycardia in a beta blocker overdose.
However some overdoses are best managed with information concerning quantitative measures of the amount of drug in the patient's system. Some of these are listed below:
- paracetamol
- salicylate
- lithium
- iron
- theophylline
- paraquat
- alcohols
- carbon monoxide
