Possible causes include:
- diuretic therapy
- accelerated hypertension
- congestive cardiac failure
- nephrotic syndrome
- liver cirrhosis with ascites
- renal artery stenosis
A rare cause of secondary hyperaldosteronism is bronchial carcinoma.
