This is generally considered to be acceptable providing the baby is feeding well and is assymptomatic. Advice would include an increase in the frequency of feeding and a repeat BM stix measurement after two or three hours.

If the blood glucose remains less than 2.5 mmol per litre then tube feeding or intravenous may be indicated.
