Water intoxication in hypopituitarism
Water intoxication is common in hypopituitary crises.
The patient is unable to mount a diuresis because of a lack of cortisol.
If the anterior pituitary is still functional, then an exacerbating factor may be the inappropriate secretion of ADH which complicates myxoedema.
