Trial population
All patients had type 2 diabetes mellitus.
1148 were randomised:
- 758 were assigned to tight blood pressure control
- 390 were assigned to less tight control
Mean age was 56 years. Mean blood pressure on entry was 160/94. Median follow-up was 8.4 years.
