Aetiology
Causes include: (1,2)
- viral diseases including influenza and measles
- Epstein Barr virus infection in glandular fever, where there is an associated white membrane
- scarlet fever
- typhoid fever
- coxsackie infection
- diphtheria
- Vincent's angina
