Clinical features
These include:
- sore throat
- dysphagia
- malaise
- on examination, the pharyngeal mucosa is reddened
Note - rhinorrhoea, nasal congestion, hoarseness, oral ulcers, conjunctivitis, and cough may often be present in viral pharyngitis but are typically absent in bacterial pharyngitis.
