There are four key nuclei which supply the vagus nerve:

  • nucleus of tractus solitarius: special visceral sensory and general visceral sensory fibres
  • sensory nucleus of trigeminal nerve: general somatic sensory
  • nucleus ambiguus: branchial motor fibres
  • dorsal motor nucleus of vagus: general visceral motor
