Dental infection
- caries - decay of the teeth by bacterial lactic acid
- pulpitis - dental caries has eroded into the central pulp of the tooth
- periodontitis - infection of the gum immediately around a tooth caused directly or secondary to pulpitis
- apical or periapical abscess - abscess at or around the root of a tooth - 'gum boil'
- osteitis of the jaw - infection of the jaw from the retained root of a broken tooth after incomplete extraction
- pericoronitis - infection of the soft tissues around the crown of a partially or completely unerupted tooth, especially a wisdom tooth
