Indicators of malignancy

Factors suggesting possible malignancy include:

  • a rapidly enlarging nodule
  • young patient, especially male
  • past exposure of neck region to irradiation, especially in childhood
  • irregular nodule
  • enlarged regional nodes
  • laryngeal nerve involvement
