Prognosis of laryngeal cancer

  • Almost 1 in 2 (45.5%) males diagnosed with laryngeal cancer in the UK survive their disease for ten years or more (2018).
  • 6 in 10 (59.8%) men in the UK diagnosed with laryngeal cancer aged 15-44 survive their disease for ten years or more, compared with around 4 in 10 (41.2%) men diagnosed aged 75-99 (2018).
  • Laryngeal cancer survival has decreased in the last 50 years in the UK.
  • In the 1970s, more than 1 in 2 (54.2%) males diagnosed with laryngeal cancer survived their disease beyond ten years, by 2018 it was almost 1 in 2 (45.5%).
  • Five-year relative survival for most head and neck cancer types is similar to or above the European average in the UK.
