Treatment

Authoring team

The treatment of ankle ligament injuries depends upon whether the tear is partial or complete:

  • partial tear: a crepe bandage is applied and active exercises are begun as soon as pain allows, for example using a 'wobble board'. These exercises are continued until full movement is regained.

  • complete tear: if there is a complete tear of the ankle ligament then this may be treated with plaster immobilization for 6 weeks.
