Results
With increasing age the following were found with increased frequency in the more elderly patients:
- comorbid conditions
- later stage disease at presentation
- need for emergency surgery
- non-curative surgical intervention
Overall post-operative morbidity and mortality increased with increasing age however cancer-specific morbidity and mortality showed a less strong correlation.
