Bowel wall
Mechanical causes of obstruction in the bowel wall include both congenital and acquired factors:
Congenital:
- atresia, stenosis of the gut
- Meckel's diverticulum
- imperforate anus
- duplication
Acquired:
- traumatic - haematoma, stricture
- inflammatory - ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, acute diverticulitis
- neoplastic
- miscellaneous - radiation, potassium-induced stricture, endometriosis in females
