Colonic polyps may be: (1)

  • neoplastic:
    • adenomas - single or associated with familial polyposis syndrome

  • hamartomatous:
    • juvenile - singly and as a juvenile polyposis syndrome
    • Peutz-Jegher's - singly and as part of Peutz-Jegher's syndrome

  • hyperplastic

  • reactive:
    • inflammatory polyps - associated with inflammatory bowel disease and ulcerative colitis more than Crohn's disease
    • lymphoid
