Complications
Possible complications include:
- urinary tract infection - prophylactic antibiotics, often covering the day before and after testing, are therefore advised; for example, trimethoprim 200 mg bd or ciprofloxacin 500 mg od
- discomfort from catheter insertion with dysuria and frequency after its removal
- haematuria from urethral trauma
- acute retention in patients with severe outflow obstruction
