Exudate ascites

Exudate ascites is defined as ascites with a protein content of greater than 3g protein per 100ml of fluid.

Possible causes of exudate ascites include:

  • malignant disease
  • pyogenic infection
  • tuberculosis
  • pancreatitis
  • lymphoedema
  • myxoedema
