Urological conditions
Urological conditions which resemble acute appendicitis include:
- renal colic:
- may see a stone on abdominal radiology
- haematuria and pyuria are common
- urinary tract infection:
- bedside urinalysis and a mid stream urine sample will aid diagnosis
- however, pelvic and retroileal appendicitis can produce pyuria
- pyelonephritis:
- bedside urinalysis and midstream urine culture and microscopy will aid diagnosis
