  • swallowing of maternal blood by neonates
  • duodenal ulcers - typically occuring in children just before puberty, but also secondary to a number of other stresses such as serious illness, burns or steriod treatment
  • Mallory Weiss tear
  • oesophageal varices
  • bleeding diatheses
